Emery Soft Fruits Celebrates First UK Shipment from Karma Farming: A New Era of International Collaboration and Berry Excellence
Emery Soft Fruits Ltd, world-class soft fruit producers, are excited to announce a new collaboration with Karma Farms, South Africa. In their first year working together, the partnership has recently delivered its first shipment of premium South African berries to the UK - marking a significant milestone in an already thriving 2025 season.
Karma Farms is situated in the garden root of Western Cape, South Africa and has undergone substantial improvements to establish itself as a leading producer of strawberries and raspberries since partnering with Emery. In its first harvest year as a subsidiary of Emery Soft Fruits, Karma Farm has achieved an impressive output of 400 tonnes of strawberries and 700 tonnes of raspberries.
The site comprises 20 hectares of production area, supported by three indoor nurseries, each with a capacity of 300 cubic meters, and two additional accretion areas totalling 900 cubic meters. These facilities are equipped with Nettajet overhead and drip nutrition systems, with space allocated for future expansion.
Operational infrastructure includes a double-volume 300 cubic meter workshop with integrated storage areas, a 300 cubic meter packing store, and a 230 cubic meter cold store and packhouse. The site also features two dams, supporting water management and irrigation across the farm.
Before its acquisition, the farm was operating with just 5 hectares of strawberries. Since then, the planted area has expanded to 18 hectares, with additional land available for future growth. All cropping zones have been covered with poly tunnels to protect the fruit and optimise growing conditions. Rainwater is harvested and returned to the site’s dam, supporting a sustainable irrigation system. The farm is also progressing toward a full transition to 100% substrate growing by the end of 2026. Infrastructure improvements include the addition of new irrigation houses, alongside the integration of solar power and a reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment plant - reinforcing the farm’s commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and long-term resilience.
